LASIK surgeon Dr. William Holt MD Slapped With Guidance Letter

Natalie Messier, a LASIK patient who suffered a bad outcome from LASIK eye surgery performed by Dr. William Holt, MD, filed a complaint against Dr. Holt with the Maine Board of Medicine.  In response, the Maine Medical Board issued a letter of guidance to Dr. Holt on March 10, 2009.

According to the letter of guidance, Dr. Holt failed to report a June, 2007 reprimand from the American Academy of Ophthalmology on his medical license renewal.  The board warned Dr. Holt of the serious nature of negative sanctions.

In a letter to Messier, the Maine Board of Medicine informed her of the board's decision to issue a guidance letter to Dr. William Holt, reminding Dr. Holt of his responsibility to personally meet with patients to discuss the risks, benefits and alternatives of refractive surgery.
